I'm the kind of mom that pictured herself doing tons of arts and crafts with her baby whenever I just had my son. Well, now that he is old enough to do a couple arts in crafts, Benjamin still has that habit of putting absolutely EVERYTHING in his mouth. Whenever I had tried to paint with him in the past, it always lead to a big disappointment because he would get upset that I wouldn't let him stick his paint covered fingers into his mouth, and then there was crying, messy hands, just...no. Well a couple months back, I remember one very awesome mama that I follow on Instagram, posted on her blog a recipe on doing edible paint. That's right, edible paint! I don't know why it took me this long to finally do it and it's honestly such an awesome recipe because most of these ingredients should already be in your pantry! You can find the recipe here on her blog but I decided to write it on my own also. (P.S. Check out her blog!) You will need:
Instructions:In a large bowl, mix all of your dry ingredients together with a whisk. Next, take your water and continue mixing. Make sure to really whisk to get any clumps out and to make it really smooth! Next, fill your disposable containers with the colors of your choice. I really wanted the colors to come out bright and vibrant so I added a lot of food coloring but you could use less for soft pastel colors like Cristi did! Fill the containers with your mixture and stir. Add more food coloring if you'd desire. And lastly, let your little one have fun! Benjamin loved helping me make his edible paint and he loved the edible paint just as much! This is definitely one of my favorite DIY's because you can just throw these away when you're done and make another batch next time you want to paint! Hope you and your little ones enjoy this edible paint as much as our little ones did!
xoxo By the title of this blog post, I know what some of you must be thinking, you let your two year old use a tablet?! And my answer is yes, yes I do, but of course with moderation. Lots of parents-and mind you even some people that aren't parents-are so quick to judge those parents that allow their little one(s) to play on their phones or tablets or even judge the fact that these little ones have tablets. But lets face it, if tablets existed in our era and our parents could afford them, we'd be little ones using tablets too! With that being said, I wanted to share my top favorite apps for Benjamin and kids that won't make you feel too guilty about letting your little one play on the tablet! 1. Endless Reader![]() You can download this app on both Android and Apple devices, and like most game apps, it comes with extras that you need to purchase. This little game is great for little ones to learn phonics and it helps teach them memorization, the sound of letters and words, and spelling! Benjamin loves this app, especially putting the words together and watching the cute little monsters act out each word! 2. PlayKids![]() We are fairly new to this app, which is also available for both Android and Apple, but so far we like it! It comes with games and shows to watch but the bummy part is that you have to pay for a yearly subscription to watch the shows. If you don't mind paying yearly for the shows, this app is great! Although we aren't paying for the shows, Benjamin loves to play the "connect the stars" constellation game and the puzzle and the music games that come along with this app! 3. Fisher Price Laugh and Learn![]() Even though these apps are more aimed for babies and small toddlers, Benjamin absolutely loves them and I do too! There's so many apps to pick and choose from such as story books, alphabet and number learning apps, to counting and animal noises apps and the best part of all is that they are all free! There is even an app that allows you to neatly have the apps and books that you have organized in just one app so that your home screen isn't filled with a bunch of baby apps. Love it! 4. Yo Gabba GabbaAlthough you do some learning in these games, I bought them more so that Benji could actually just let lose and play a little game from time to time that doesn't necessarily require for him to learn much. And yes you read that right, you have to actually BUY these games. It's honestly really cute watching Benjamin feed, change, and take the Yo Gabba Gabba babies to their doctor visits in the Babies app, or put together a nice sandwich for Muno in the Party In My Tummy app. The cool thing about these apps that they come with a short clip and coloring pages for them to color on besides playing the little games. Benji's favorite one is the Babies one! 5. YouTube KidsThis app is a total life saver whenever we go out to eat at restaurants and we don't have the tablet with us (since most of the games are there). I love this app because so far it's been really safe to use because it has great parental control. You can literally type "gun sounds" or something violent or not child appropriate and it will recommend you to try to look up something else. I also absolutely love that it comes with recommendations in the home screen and different types of tabs with different types of videos such as music videos or learning videos! This app is a must to know that your little one is watching something safe and appropriate! Like I mentioned before, I'm glad that these apps are not just fun and games, but I love that Benjamin is actually learning from these games as well and that these apps are safe. I know not everyone agrees with little ones learning from technology or little ones playing with technology as a whole, but at least I know the reason my son is using the tablet and that is to learn and have fun! |
